Will neighborhood block parties continue to exist in the future? Everyone is so busy today. It takes a significant commitment of time and effort to gather with neighbors, friends, family, and civic leaders. A greater contribution is required to actually plan and host. Are neighborhood block parties worth the investment of time, effort, and money? I believe they are.
As we journey through life, it is in the connections that we make, the shared moments, the sense of being part of something bigger than ourselves, that happiness may be found. Sometimes the greatest gifts we may give to our children, and to ourselves, are in the experiences that we choose to orchestrate and share.
Time is fleeting. When my children are grown up and move on with their own lives, I don't want their memory to be of the house their mother kept up to perfection, or the endless work hours devoted to career or causes. I want them to remember the years we hosted the Dallas North Estates Halloween Block Party, the summers spent at the Texas Pool, and the meaning behind it all.
Note: The City of Plano has a Pop-Up Party Trailer that contains almost everything one needs to host a neighborhood block party. Here's more!
