Historical Happenings

Its endless summer at the Texas Pool, celebrating these last weeks of our 57th season. The Texas Pool Foundation has been thrilled to welcome new Historian Michelle Giltner to our Board of Directors. Michelle brings a passion for Plano history and expertise in preservation to our team. In June, following a presentation to Plano’s Heritage Commission, the Texas Pool received a $62K grant to begin renovation of the facility. This will begin with the pool structure itself in the off season. In July, Foundation President Jennifer Bennett and I met with Texas oilman and visionary developer Herbert Hunt to talk Texas Pool over lunch. He has been enjoying our exciting behind-the-scenes journey as the Texas Pool Application for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places moves forward. Working with the Plano Conservancy and the Texas Heritage Commission, the final draft of our application is being presented to the City of Plano on August 28th. The Texas Historical Commission Board will meet in Canyon Texas, on October 27th to approve our application for inclusion in the National Register. From there the application goes to the National Park Service in Washington DC for completion with a 45 day wait for confirmation. With the support of the City of Plano, the Heritage Commission, the Texas Historical Commission, the Plano Conservancy, Texas Pool Foundation, volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners, and a blessing of Divine Providence, the future for the Texas Pool is now as big as Texas. Many thanks to all!
